Visiting Luss

Luss is a little conservation village on the west of Loch Lomond. During the summer, it’s a popular place to visit and many people stop here before making their way further north.

I’ve visited Luss many times, although one of my favourite times to visit is during the winter months as it’s much quieter. I love walking along the main street and looking at the pretty houses. Below is a list of things to do when in lovely Luss!

Luss Pier and Beach

Although it’s a small village, you will most likely end up staying for hours. On a warm day, Luss pier and beach is a great place for a wander and a rest. From the pier, you can take a trip on a waterbus or admire the loch.

Pier Road

From the pier, you’ll see a row of beautiful cottages on Pier Road which have well decorated gardens. Luss General Store is close to here which is a gift shop that sells Scottish gifts and homewares. They also have a small cafe stocked with cakes. The shop looks very traditional and at winter, the glow from the Victorian lights outside makes me feel like I’ve stepped back in time.

The Village Rest

The Village Rest is a cafe in a beautiful cottage. Inside, it’s well decorated and bright and has a great menu. Anywhere that offers a full Scottish breakfast is a winner in my eyes. The Village Rest also serves soup, sandwiches, wraps, burgers and favourites like macaroni cheese and chilli. I always feel that a visit to Luss has to end with a trip to The Village Rest.

Luss Smokehouse

You’ll find a variety of Scottish produce at Luss Smokehouse including smoked salmon, mackerel and mussels. If you’re looking for food to takeaway, they also do bagels, sandwiches and salads. Inside the smokehouse, there’s a viewing window where you can watch the seafood being prepared. If you’re a bit of a foodie, you won’t want to miss this!

The Coach House Coffee Shop

Another beautiful building in Luss is The Coach House. It’s a busy wee place but they also have a lovely outdoor seating area and it’s a very warm and inviting place. Whenever I go here, I always order their cakes – the problem is always deciding which one to eat!

Loch Lomond Faerie Trail

I haven’t been on this trail but I’ve heard good things about it. From the main car park, look out for a silver van as this is where the faerie trail journey begins and its where you purchase a clue book.

Luss is one of my favourite villages in the Loch Lomond area and I can never pass by it without having a wee visit. If you’re looking to go further north than Luss, you should stop by Inveruglas Viewpoint!
