An Ceann Mor at Inveruglas – Copytyper Travels

An Ceann Moris is an impressive viewpoint at Inveruglas, making it a great stop-off for venturing further or for something different to do.

An Ceann Mor was built as part of the Scottish Scenic Routes project and was unveiled in 2015 to increase tourism to the area.

Going from Glasgow to Inveruglas is a lovely scenic drive that feels more like twenty minutes than an hour. We parked at the Inveruglas visitor centre which is next to the viewpoint and has toilets and a cafe. From the car park, it takes about 5 minutes to get to the viewpoint.

The viewpoint stands on the banks of Loch Lomond, making for a very pretty shot of the view from the path to the water. An Ceann Mor has stairs on one side of it (31 steps) giving you a higher view of Loch Lomond and the Arrochar Alps – it stands at eight metres high.

It’s something quite unusual and it certainly attracted a lot of visitors, I patiently waited to snap a photo of the viewpoint with no one around it! Inveruglas is near Arrochar and Tarbet which have some cute tea rooms and plenty of walks.

If you want to extend your stay, you can camp at Inveruglas near the visitor centre. Remember from March to September that you’ll need a permit!

On our way home, we stopped off at Cruach Tairbeirt and completed the whole walk, there are two paths you can start at but either way takes you back to the start eventually. On this walk, you can see the trains at certain points whizz by you which was quite scary at first! It’s a great walk though, with all the trees around you, it feels like you’ve got the whole place to yourself.

The journey on the way there and back goes so quickly because there’s lots of lovely scenery to look at between Inveruglas and Glasgow – it beats the grey motorway.
